Born in Chieti, he began studying the accordion at a very young age, later adding the bandoneon to his training. He studied with Claudio Calista at the Musical Academy of Pescara, graduating with top marks and honours from the Piccinni Conservatoire of Bari in 1995. He subsequently perfected his studies with leading figures such as M. Bonnay (Conservatoire Sup\u00e9rieur de Paris), V. Zubitsky and M. Ellegaard (Royal Academy of Copenhagen), and studied composition with Pasquale Veleno (a student of Edgar Alandia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Awarded prizes in the most important national and international competitions, in 1993 he won, among others, first prize at the International Competition \u201cCitt\u00e0 di Castelfidardo\u201d. He has given more than 2,000 concerts in 50 countries worldwide and has performed as a soloist with major orchestras including the Orchestra of Swiss Italian Radio, Officina Musicale Italiana, Vox Aurae Orchestra (conducted by Leo Brouwer), Kaunas Chamber Orchestra (Lithuania), Bacau Symphony Orchestra (Romania), Quer\u00e9taro Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), Virtuosi di Mosca (Russia), Lugansk Philharmonic (Ukraine), Baden-Baden Orchestra (Germany), Brazos Valley Orchestra (USA), Orchestra Sinfonica di Pescara, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, East Western Orchestra (South Korea), Salzburg Soloists (Austria), I Solisti Aquilani, and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has also performed under the direction of Riccardo Muti at the Teatro dell\u2019Opera di Roma with the Cherubini Orchestra in a programme dedicated to the music of Nino Rota. In 2008 and 2017 he toured as a bandoneonist with Fernando Su\u00e1rez Paz (Astor Piazzolla\u2019s violinist), with whom he also recorded an album that received the Orpheus Award from the critics. In 2011 he won the Astor Piazzolla Prize for his contribution to the dissemination of the great Argentine composer\u2019s work.
He has given masterclasses at Loyola University (Los Angeles), the Conservatory of Beijing, the Zagreb Academy, and the Luxembourg Conservatoire, and has recorded for Decca, Naxos, Brilliant Classics, Fon\u00e8, Concerto, Movimento Classic and Parma Recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also active as a composer, his works have been performed in prestigious concert halls (Kyiv, Helsinki, Prague, Zagreb, etc.) by the Ukrainian Presidential Orchestra, the Cologne Philharmonic, Zagreb Symphony Orchestra, I Solisti Aquilani, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He previously taught at music schools in Castelfidardo and has been teaching in conservatoires since 2006 (Lecce, Parma, Foggia). He is currently Professor of Accordion at the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro and Artistic Director of the International Accordion Competition (PIF) in Castelfidardo.
