Francesco Finocchiaro is Professor of Music History at the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro, a Privatdozent at the University of Innsbruck, and a contract lecturer at the University of Padua. He mainly works on the relationships between composition, theory, and aesthetics in twentieth-century music. He holds diplomas in Oboe and Music Education and obtained a PhD in Musicology in 2006 from the University of Bologna with a dissertation on Arnold Sch\u00f6nberg\u2019s compositional theory. He edited the Italian edition of Sch\u00f6nberg\u2019s treatise *Il pensiero musicale* (Astrolabio-Ubaldini, 2011) and has published numerous essays on the Viennese School in international journals. He has taught and conducted research at the universities of Bologna, Milan \u201cBicocca\u201d, IULM, Catania, Florence, and Pescara, as well as abroad at the Arnold Sch\u00f6nberg Center in Vienna, the Freie Universit\u00e4t Berlin, the University of Bayreuth, and New York University Steinhardt. From 2013 to 2019 he was Principal Investigator and Senior Post-Doc Fellow at the Institute of Musicology of the University of Vienna, working on research projects concerning film music in the silent film era. Since 2020 he has taught Music History in the conservatoires of Campobasso, Padua, Mantua, and Rovigo; from 2023 to 2024 he was a research fellow in Musicology at the University of Milan. Over twenty years of academic activity, he has published more than 70 essays in three languages and delivered more than 100 lectures in various countries. His publications include the monographs *Modernismo musicale e cinema tedesco nel Primo Novecento* (LIM and, in English, Palgrave Macmillan, 2017) and *Dietro un velo di organza* (Accademia University Press, 2020; German edition text+kritik, 2026). He is the author of an open-access digital database of critical sources on German silent cinema (FMJ Archive) and guest editor of *Fontes Artis Musicae* for a special issue (71\/2, 2024) on film music. His research interests also include metaphorology, semiotics, and media theory. Together with Maurizio Giani he edited *Musica e metafora: storia analisi ermeneutica* (AUP, 2017), and with Paolo Gozza and Stefano Lombardi Vallauri *Il discorso musicale. La musica e i suoi generi testuali nella storia* (AUP, 2023). His current research focuses on music in Fascist Italy and cultural policy in totalitarian regimes. He has edited *L\u2019industria della persuasione* (2022) and (with Stefano Lombardi Vallauri) *Music, Aesthetics, and Politics in the 20th Century* (2026) for the \u201cBiblioteca di Athena Musica\u201d series (Accademia University Press, Turin). He is a member of Athena Musica, Il Saggiatore musicale, and the International Musicological Society, where he collaborates in the Study Groups \u201cMusic and Media\u201d and \u201cGlobal History of Music\u201d. He co-directs the \u201cBiblioteca di Athena Musica\u201d publishing series (2017\u2013) and works as a peer reviewer for international academic journals and publishers.
