Alberto Nones (Trento, 1975), pianist, philosopher and music historian, holds the Chair of Music History at the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro. His artistic and academic activity is grounded in a broad cultural approach, aimed at questioning the meaning of making music today and renewing its interpretative perspectives.
He is the author of four musicological monographs (on Zandonai, Verdi, Bonporti, and The Doors), three edited volumes \u2014 including Classical Music in a Changing World: Crisis and Vital Signs, with Lawrence Kramer \u2014 and numerous essays published in international academic journals. He has also worked as a translator, including the English edition for Princeton University Press of Maurizio Viroli\u2019s Come se Dio ci fosse: religione e libert\u00e0 nella storia d\u2019Italia (Einaudi).
His critically acclaimed recordings include various solo and chamber music projects. He is engaged in recording the complete piano works of Chopin with Halidon Music, of which the Mazurkas, Nocturnes, Fantasias, Waltzes (including the one rediscovered in New York in 2024), Preludes and Impromptus have been released to date. Among his other projects are a recording dedicated to Rachmaninoff and Silvestrov as part of a project of cultural diplomacy and solidarity (for the French Label Anima Records), the Mozart album Reflecting Mozart, and the first recording of the Nocturnes by the Palestinian composer Mahmoud Abuwarda (Gaza, 1990). Together, these works outline a conception of music as a space in which interpretation, history and human experience are intertwined.
Alongside numerous recordings and ongoing projects, his chamber music activity includes the Brahms sonatas with violinist Franco Mezzena, as well as several albums dedicated to vocal chamber repertoire (Cimara, Isang Yun, Brahms, and the complete works for soprano and piano by Marco Anzoletti, resulting from his research on unpublished manuscripts preserved in the Municipal Library of Trento).
He has given concerts and lectures across Europe, the United States, Russia, the Middle East and Africa. He graduated with honours in Piano from the Conservatoire of Trento, and further refined his studies with maestri such as Paul Badura-Skoda and Franco Scala. He graduated with honours in Philosophy from the University of Bologna, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. from the University of Trento.
He has been a Marie Curie Fellow at Cambridge and a Fulbright and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Princeton. He has over twenty-five years of university-level teaching experience in the social sciences (Trento, Lugano, United Arab Emirates) and in Conservatoire settings in Music History, Chamber Music and Piano (Como, Gallarate, Foggia and Rodi Garganico, Matera, Perugia). At Gallarate he served as Head of Teaching, Artistic Production and Internationalisation.
He is a SIAE-registered author and composer and has collaborated with RAI Trento since 2011. Since 2017 he has directed the European Association for Music and Communication.
