{"id":592783,"date":"2022-08-30T11:11:07","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T09:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conservatoriorossini.it\/docenti\/federico-stassi\/"},"modified":"2026-07-15T09:47:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T07:47:16","slug":"federico-stassi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.conservatoriorossini.it\/en\/teachers\/federico-stassi\/","title":{"rendered":"Federico Stassi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born in Palermo, he graduated with honours in Viola and received an Honourable Mention in Chamber Music from the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire, where he studied respectively with Maestros Massimo Paris and Roberto Galletto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He began studying the viola with Maestro Renato D\u2019Anna at the conservatoire in his native city and obtained the traditional Diploma under the guidance of Maestro Antonello Farulli at the Conservatoire of Bologna in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He furthered his studies with distinguished musicians including Carlo Pozzi, Piero Farulli, Riccardo Brengola, Giuseppe Prencipe and many others. He also studied at the Conservatorium Maastricht, where he earned a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Viola in the class of Maestro Michael Kugel; at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he obtained Diplomas in Viola and Chamber Music through its advanced training programmes under Massimo Paris and Carlo Fabiano; and at the Arrigo Boito Conservatoire, where, together with pianist Giuseppe Grippi, he earned a Second-Cycle Master\u2019s Degree in Chamber Music under the guidance of the renowned Trio di Parma and Maestro Pierpaolo Maurizzi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the awards and honours he has received are the Diploma of Merit from the Accademia Chigiana of Siena, the Second Prize Overall at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in the Solo Strings category, and, together with pianist Giuseppe Grippi, the Most Distinguished Award at the <em>Ibla Grand Prize<\/em> International Music Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has served as Principal Viola in numerous orchestras, including the Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra Sinfonica of Milan, the Orchestra Filarmonica of Turin, the FORM \u2013 Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, the Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto and the Scarlatti Orchestra of Naples, to mention just a few. From 2003 to 2007 he held the same position on a permanent basis with the Orchestra Sinfonica of Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has taught in numerous professional orchestral training programmes, including the <em>Spazio Musica<\/em> Opera Workshop in Orvieto in 2004 and the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto in 2007. In 2005 he gave viola masterclasses at the Teatro Nacional Claudio Santoro in Brasilia and in 2010 at the Roosevelt University of Chicago. He is regularly invited to teach masterclasses in Viola and Chamber Music, also for the Associazione Italiana della Viola, of which he is a member, in various locations throughout Italy, such as Rome, Florence, Livorno,Bari, Gubbio (PG), Montegiorgio (FM), San Benedetto del Tronto (AP) and many others, both at conservatoires and advanced summer courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has taught Chamber Music at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali \u201cArturo Toscanini\u201d in Ribera, the Conservatoire \u201cN. Piccinni\u201d in Bari, the Conservatoire \u201cG. B. Pergolesi\u201d in Fermo and the Conservatoire \u201cAlessandro Scarlatti\u201d in Palermo. He currently holds the Chair of Chamber Music at the Rossini Conservatoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is the violist of the Quintetto Bottesini, with which he has performed throughout the world and made numerous recordings, including releases for <em>Amadeus<\/em> magazine in November 2010 (featuring &#8216;The Trout&#8217; by Franz Schubert and the Piano Quintet in C minor by Hermann Goetz) and December 2017 (featuring the first recording of the sextets by Ferdinando Giorgetti), as well as for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brilliantclassics.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brilliant<\/a>, recording the complete quintets for strings and piano by Louise Farrenc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has also released on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naxos.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Naxos Records<\/a> a CD containing the world premiere recording of the String Trio, Op. 147, by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, together with violinist Davide Alogna and cellist Roberto Trainini, and prepared the revised edition of the score published by Casa Editrice Curci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together with pianist Roberto Galletto, he founded the Santa Cecilia Quintet, with which he has toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also performs regularly in duo with pianist Giuseppe Grippi, with whom he has given numerous concerts and made several live recordings for the RAI \u2013 Radiotelevisione Italiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He performs on a 1780 Tomaso Eberle viola made in Naples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Born in Palermo, he graduated with honours in Viola and received an Honourable Mention in Chamber Music from the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire, where he studied respectively with Maestros Massimo Paris and Roberto Galletto.
