Gianluca Luisi is regarded by international critics as one of the finest Italian pianists of our time (Potsdamer Nachrichten, Fanfare, New York Concert Reviews at Carnegie Hall, Musica, American Record Guide). His concerts have received enthusiastic acclaim from audiences all over the world.
He has won numerous competitions, including First Prize at the 4th International J.S. Bach Competition in Saarbr\u00fccken-W\u00fcrzburg, and was praised by the German press as a new interpreter of Bach\u2019s music. He has performed for major institutions and festivals such as the Musikverein in Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Bach Festival in Leipzig, the Husum Piano Festival, the Dresden Philharmonie and the Maison de la Musique in Montr\u00e9al (Canada).
He has performed from memory complex cycles of works: J.S. Bach\u2019s The Well-Tempered Clavier<\/em> at the Bachtage in Potsdam, later recorded for Centaur Records, and Beethoven\u2019s Symphonies in Liszt\u2019s transcription with Konstantin Scherbakov. His discography includes 28 recordings for various labels (Naxos, Decca, Arts, mDG, Onclassical); among his most recent releases are a double CD dedicated to the complete Piano Concertos by J.S. Bach (Decca), a live recording of Chopin\u2019s Preludes op. 28 (Onclassical), and a CD dedicated to Chinese composers (Naxos).
He has been a jury member of the International Tchaikovsky Competition for young pianists, among whose winners was the famous Chinese pianist Lang Lang; since 2011 he has been Artistic Director of the historic competition Coppa Pianisti of Osimo. In 2015 he was awarded honorary citizenship of the City of Osimo.
His repertoire is very extensive and includes almost the entirety of Bach\u2019s and Chopin\u2019s works, which he regularly performs in concert in different cycles (recently, he has performed Chopin\u2019s 24 Preludes op. 28, Etudes op. 10 and op. 25, Scherzos, Ballades and the two Piano Concertos). In 2022 he performed Chopin\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor op. 11 with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Mathias Mueller at the Swiss festival Murten Classic; in 2023 Chopin\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor op. 18 at the Osimo Festival with conductor Massimiliano Caldi; in 2024, together with colleague Manlio Benzi and the FORM orchestra, he performed Rachmaninov\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 1 in F-sharp minor op. 1 in the main historic theatres of the Marche region.
On 19 October 2025 he made a highly successful debut in the main hall of the Berlin Philharmonie, opening the 2025 season of the Berliner Symphoniker under the direction of Gudni Emilsson with Rachmaninov\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 2. Alongside his intense concert activity, he is deeply committed to teaching: he is Professor of Piano at the Rossini Conservatoire in Pesaro and gives advanced courses in China, Switzerland, Poland and the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
