Soprano, she was born in Turin. She began studying piano at the age of five; she graduated in Singing at the Verdi Conservatoire in Turin with top marks and obtained a second-cycle academic diploma with honours. Winner of international competitions, she attended the first edition of the Accademia di Martina Franca and already in the following year she sang professionally for the same festival. Rodolfo Celletti followed her training for several years. She also perfected her studies with the soprano L. Gencer.
She made her debut at a very young age in Rossini\u2019s La Gazzetta<\/em> at the Opera Giocosa in Savona conducted by F. Luisi and was immediately launched into an international career. In her early years, also due to her very young age, she specialised in the Baroque repertoire, later moving on to the Romantic and Verdian repertoire, establishing herself in the vocal category of the dramatic coloratura soprano. Her signature role has been Bellini\u2019s Norma, which she has performed 82 times in the main international theatres.
She has worked with internationally renowned conductors such as Muti, Abbado, Luisi, Zedda, Campanella, Carrella, Carminati, Savall, Malgoire, Giovanninetti, Baresa, Pesko, De Bernart, etc., in productions directed by B. Wilson, Gregoretti, Squarzina, De Tomasi, R. Scotto, L. Alva, Crivelli, Gasparon, Giacchieri, Grisostomi, Kaegi, Mariani, et al. She has performed in theatres such as La Scala in Milan, San Carlo in Naples, Regio in Turin, Petruzzelli in Bari, Verdi in Trieste, Teatro Comunale and Pergola in Florence, Op\u00e9ra de Lyon and Lille, Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es, Liceu in Barcelona, Op\u00e9ra de Marseille and Montpellier, Op\u00e9ra Bastille in Paris, Staatsoper in Berlin, National Opera in Helsinki, Royal Opera House in Stockholm, Coliseu do Porto, Opera in Bogot\u00e1, Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and Nuremberg, Split Festival, Cyprus Opera, Tonhalle in Zurich, Theatre of St. Gallen, Klagenfurt Theatre, Classic Openair in Solothurn, Seoul Arts Center, Sofia Opera.
She has also performed in the major international festivals: Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, ROF of Pesaro, Festival of Martina Franca, Festival Tourcoing. Her repertoire ranges from Renaissance opera to contemporary repertoire; she won the Critics\u2019 Abbiati Prize for the premiere of Hangio<\/em> at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino on music by M. Panni with direction by B. Wilson.
A specialist in bel canto, she has performed works by Monteverdi, Purcell, Fux, A. Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Traetta, Piccinni, Handel, Haydn, Pergolesi, Gossec, Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi (of whom she performs as many as 16 roles), E. Petrella, Puccini and Mascagni. She has also had an important concert career in sacred and chamber repertoire in Europe, South America, South Africa and the Middle East.
Her extensive discography includes world premiere recordings of masterpieces later entered into the repertoire of the greatest performers, such as Vivaldi\u2019s Griselda<\/em> and the unpublished chamber works of F.B. Pratella. All of this has been released on labels such as RCA, Nuova Era, Sony, Naxos, Tactus, Bongiovanni, Arkadia. She has given masterclasses in Europe and South America and is often invited to serve on international competition juries.
