After receiving his first musical training from his father, he began his studies at the G. B. Martini Conservatoire of Bologna, the city where he was born in 1963. He studied viola with Angelo Bartoletti and Augusto Vismara and, in 1986, earned his Diploma in Viola as a private candidate at the L. Cherubini Conservatoire in Florence. He subsequently attended advanced courses with renowned violists including Dino Asciolla, Bruno Giuranna, Piero Farulli and Jurij Bashmet, studying at institutions such as the Fondazione W. Stauffer in Cremona, the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He devoted particular attention to chamber music under the guidance of distinguished musicians including Enzo Porta, Pavel Vernikov, Konstantin Bogino, Maureen Jones, Alain Meunier, Berl Senovski and members of the Amadeus Quartet. In 2006, he earned a Second-Cycle Academic Diploma in Chamber Music with honours from the Conservatoire of Fermo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a violist, he also studied Baroque music with Giorgio Pacchioni and Jazz with Franco D’Andrea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He studied harmony and counterpoint with Gaetano Giani Luporini and later received conducting training from Emilio Pomarico at the Milan Civic School of Music and with Donato Renzetti at the Pescara Music Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has performed in numerous chamber ensembles, exploring a wide-ranging repertoire, particularly piano quartets, viola-and-piano duos, clarinet trios with piano or with flute and harp, and, occasionally, string quartets. He was a founding member of the Archi Live Quartet, performing repertoire ranging from classical music to pop, jazz and funk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a member of the Ensemble Koin\u00e8, he performed works by major composers including Luciano Berio, Ennio Morricone and Goffredo Petrassi in their presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2000, he collaborated with Carla Bley and Steve Swallow on the project Carla Bley Fancy Chamber Music<\/em> at the Verona Jazz Festival. He also performed with Fabrizio Meloni as a member of the Quartetto di Fermo, taught at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire, and participated in a theatrical production by Lella Costa dedicated to Carlos Gardel, alongside a tango ensemble and bandoneon player Daniele di Bonaventura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In subsequent years, at the New Music Festival in Macerata, he performed with leading contemporary composers and musicians such as Rohan de Saram, Stefano Scodanibbio and Butch Morris (Conduction n. 194 Macerata 31.3.2011).<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a soloist with orchestra, he has performed works by P. Hindemith, G. Gershwin, A. Rolla, G. Ph. Telemann and W. A. Mozart (Sinfonia Concertante K. 364), as well as the first recording of San Francesco<\/em>, a meditation for viola by Lino Liviabella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini of the Romagna Region, often serving as Principal Viola. In 1987 he was selected in the viola audition at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and subsequently won orchestra competitions (first prize winner) at the E.A. Arena di Verona and the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, becoming a permanent member of the latter from 1989 to 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From 1995 to 1997 he served as Principal Viola of the Orchestra Internazionale d\u2019Italia, touring extensively around the world. He has performed with distinguished soloists including M. Rostropovich, J. Carreras, I. Gruber, I. Ojstrach, V. Mullova, B. Giuranna, L. Kavakos, M. Perraya, J.P. Rampal, J. Bell, U. Ughi, G. Kremer and N. Gutman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From 1997 to 2013, he served continuously as Principal Viola of the FORM \u2013 Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana (Fondazione Orchestra Regionale delle Marche)<\/p>\n\n\n\n He currently collaborates with the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini of Pesaro, is a member of the Rimini Chamber Orchestra, and serves as Artistic Director of the Rimini branch of the Associazione Mozart Italia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 1994, after successfully passing the national teaching competition organised by the Italian Ministry of Education in 1990, he was appointed Professor of Chamber Music.
